Third Cohort Award Ceremony

On Thursday 4th February 2010, 44 students from the Faculty of Science Addis Ababa University attended an award ceremony held on the Arat Kilo campus. These students commenced their studies in the Academic Year 2009-2010 and represent the third cohort of EFSAF awardees. The first semester grant of E$375 had been credited to bank accounts opened on their behalf with the Arat Kilo Branch of Awash International Bank SC.

The students were presented with their bank books by Professor Sisay Asefa of the Western Michigan University USA. (See separate news item for his address). Also present were Dr Habte (Assistant Dean of Students, Faculty of Science), Ato Mulugeta (EFSAF trustee), Mr Ronald Stott (Chairman of the EFSAF trustees) and Professor Yalemtsehay (Head of Women's Affairs).

As provincial students had not been admitted to the University for the Academic Year 2009-2010, the awardees originated from the geographical area surrounding Addis Ababa. The selection was made jointly by the Faculty of Science, the Department of Women's Affairs and the Students Union. All the students are in the Applied Science Stream with 13 students studying biology, 4 mathematics, 8 chemistry, 4 earth science, 6 physics, 8 statistics, and 1 sport science.
